Gensan Airport

I have seen a lot of airports and I think that Gensan’s airport terminal would be one of the dreariest (is there such a word?) airports I’ve seen. The dreariest is in faraway, remote 800 meter runway airport in Coron, Northern Palawan.

I think the building badly needs painting, the check-in counters functional, toilets are definitely in need of rehabilitation. The lighting could be better too. I see a lot of busted (unlit maybe) bulbs.

The exterior is okay. Parking spaces are abundant and the garden just needs some magic touch by Dr. Abella. But it’s good-looking enough. It might also be good to put a covered walk from the arrival area to the parking areas.

It might be great to put more stores inside the terminal because the airport is practically operating almost for 9 hours everyday with 3 daily flights now. Specially since the airlines are not comng in or flying out on time lately, the passengers need more entertainment inside the terminal.

Gym anyone?

I’m not a fitness enthusiast. Yet. Although I’ve been wanting and planning forever to enrol in a gym or a dance class.

But if you’re looking for gyms in Gensan, you might want to check out these establishments.

  • Fitness Mania Haus on RD Plaza
  • Muscletrack on Papaya Extension, near Magsaysay ave.
  • Arcadia on J. Catolico, same building as Yabut Clinic and the new Green Bank

I see this Lagao ProGym on the way home. It’s near Trade School but I’m not sure if it’s still operating.

If you ask me which one I will choose if I do get to enrol, I might go to Fitness Mania because it’s not airconditioned and they have regular dance classes or Arcadia maybe. It’s clean, the facilities are new. The proximity to my house might be a problem though. I believe Arcadia has the highest rates but it’s totally worth it.

Dili Ka Guapo

Dili Ka Guapo. In English, it means you are not handsome.

I’m not talking about you or some member of the male species.

It’s a popular dish at Six’ Blings Ostrich Bar and Resto. It’s made of dilis (anchovies or small fish) and guava.

Try it now!

Kalilangan Opens

source: www.gensantos.gov.ph

Many “generals” (as residents of Gen. Santos City call themselves) braved the not-so-good weather Saturday to witness the Grand Opening of the 11-day Kalilangan Festival 2008.Students, teachers, parents, visitors, and people from all walks of life were entertained by grade school and secondary school dancers in colorful costumes perform favorite folk dances.

A colorful fireworks display to cap the night later awed the crowd with children cheering and shouting with joy and excitement.

In his short message, GenSan City Mayor Pedro B. Acharon, Jr., said the celebration of the city’s 69th Foundation Anniversary is another milestone in the pages of its history.

He narrated how our forefathers, the pioneers, transformed this barren place into a highly urbanized city and the Tuna Capital of the Philippines after 69 years.

“This did not happen overnight but through the hard work of our leaders and the cooperation of our people,” he said.

He also stressed that if there is peace comes development. And with development, is the opportunity for celebration in thanksgiving, citing this as the reason for the festival theme: Kalinaw (peace), Kalambuan (progress), Kasadya (pageantry).

“Daghan and gusto mag-isturbo sa atong dakbayan busa gikinahanglan kita magtinabangay sa kanunay og atong ipadayon ang kasadya,” he added. (cpio/ping aponesto)

The Company and Aiza Seguerra Concert

I see posters of a concert this February 23, 2008 at Lagao Gym. Wow, The Company? I love them! And don’t forget Aiza Seguerra will be in town. Too bad I’ll be out of town, I would have loved to watch the concert. If I were you go get your tickets now. Most probably you can inquire from Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage Parish for tickets. Here’s OLPGV’s number- 3802200.

Great Family Day at Shalom Crest Wizard Academy

Last February 16 was Family Day at my daughter’s school, Shalom Crest Wizard Academy. It was our first time so we went to the meeting before the event and joined the affair last saturday too. This year’s theme was Love is spelled as T.I.M.E.. Tying Individual Moments for Everybody.

It started really early at 6am for the motorcade. Unfortunately, since my husband is still out of town, we did not have any transpo for the motorcade and just went straight to the school. The whole day was filled with games and more games! After lunch was Bingo time.

The night was capped by the Cultural Night. My daughter and I landed third in the duet singing contest but it’s ok. She was definitely the youngest at 4 and was somewhat surprised at the attention of the crowd. We enjoyed it definitely.

Too bad my team (I’m with the green team) got third place overall. But it was fun I would say. The attendance was surely not astounding but the people who were there were really there to cheer their team and to just simply spend the time with their children.

Will I attend next year’s Family Day? Yes I would. I just hope it could be shorter because we were there from sun up to beyond sun down.

The event was organized by SCWA PTCA. Congratulations!

Sarangani Highlands Update

Sarangani Highlands is just getting better and stronger!

Last time I was there, they already have an Acoustic Night. Plus I tasted the Mango-Shrimp-Pomelo Salad. I’m not sure if it’s new but it sure was good! If you haven’t been to Sarangani Highlands for the last 3 or 4 months, they already have an area perfect for weddings. Of course, it’s still overlooking Sarangani Bay. They call it Plaza Sarangania. How about that for a name!

Thanks to Bob Martin for the wonderful lunch!

My Favorite Food Finds in Gensan

They are what makes most of my days because I love food! Great food and some of them happen to be very, very affordable. Some of these are not secrets at all. Most of them are popular that’s probably why I knew of them from friends or former workmates. Now, let me just make it clear right now that this list does not come in any order.

1. Jo-Ann’s Bakeshoppe’s Siopao – Yummy! The best siopao I have ever tasted.

2. Orange Bistro’s Beef Salpicao- It’s good!

3. Sarangani Highlands’ Pansit and Butterfly Shrimps- The pansit has that ‘pansit’ smell and taste that is really good. Butterfly Shrimps is Doc A’s recipe.

4. Yolly’s Palabok- need I say more?

5. Barbecue from this small stall in front of Purok Malakas Market

6. Cafe Leticia’s Bachoy (Family Country Hotel)- if you have fever, their bachoy will make you well!

7. Ranchero’s Baby Back Ribs

8. I Love Sushi’s Katsudon

9. Sunset Cafe’s Chicken Pandan and Fried Balut (not sure about the title)

I am sure I forgot something and I am sure I have made you hungry. Life is good!

Restaurant and Marketing Consultancy

Do you own a restaurant? Are you experiencing problems with getting more people to eat in your restaurant? Or do you need help in operations? You know, costs, lousy waiters, missing glasses and the like.

It is not a joke running a restaurant. I have helped a couple of companies in Gensan including Sarangani Highlands and Family Country Hotel. So should you need help running your restaurant, send me an email! I will be glad to meet with you for an initial review.

You can also get free helpful articles in Resto Rescue.
